Do you ever find yourself spiraling out of control into negative thinking? Do you find that your day is going out of control? Do you find that a bad mood amplifies bad things happening to you?
This is the Law of Attraction at work. Like attracts like. So when you are miserable, you find more miserable thoughts and experiences are coming into your life.
Similarly with positive thoughts and a positive mindset. When you are happy, everything seems to go well. You attract new opportunities easily. You meet the right people at the right time.
Sometimes, it can seem impossible to keep thinking positively all the time. Negative thoughts creep in. You wonder if all your intentions and manifesting is really working. You know it works, you have seen it work, but it all just feels like hocus pocus mumbo jumbo.
I have been reading a lot about the Law of Attraction lately, and it can be a bit overwhelming at times, realizing how much power that our thoughts have, and trying to stay in a positive mindset.
Our minds naturally have a negative bias, so we are constantly fighting an uphill battle against our limiting beliefs to have more positive thinking. However, it can be done.
When you feel down
When you start to feel down, take some time for self-care. You can do all kinds of things to help you start to feel better again, and to get yourself feeling more positive about yourself and about life.
You can get out your mental self-care toolbox and do something good for yourself to turn your thinking around:
- Practice mindfulness, meditation or yoga
- Go for a relaxing walk
- Practice gratitude
- Make some warm tea or coffee
- Go to a coffee shop that you like
- Take yourself out for a nice meal
- Call a friend
- Read a good book
- Watch a favorite movie
- Pamper yourself
- Do your skincare routine
- Take a hot bath or shower
Any of these can help you get into a more positive mindset, especially if you take an hour or so for yourself and do more than one of these.
Every day I start my day with yoga. Then, before I start working, I take time to say affirmations, do my gratitude journal, and do my Law of Attraction journal.
Taking some time to visualize how you will feel when your goals and manifestations come true will also help you start to feel more positive about yourself and your day.
It is ok to feel overwhelmed
It happens to all of us from time to time. This is why it is so crucial to build in time for rest and self-care throughout your day and your week. Even if you are in an office, take a few minutes to get up from your desk to walk around.
You can walk up and down stairs a couple of times to get your blood flowing, or make a cup of coffee or tea to take back to your desk. It may be a more structured environment, but still make sure to take at least a couple of breaks away from your desk and your phone throughout the day.
When you start to feel overwhelmed, you can also sit down and itemize your to-do list, so that you will know what is most important that needs to be done right away.
If you feel overwhelmed with trying to manifest your dreams, it is ok to take a break from that too. Just remember to stay in a positive mindset and focus on gratitude.
Gratitude for what we already have is a powerful force in attracting more good into our lives. So when you are feeling overwhelmed with anything else you need to do, take a few minutes to write what you are grateful for, to help you refocus your energy.
You can have this list next to your desk or workspace, or somewhere else that you can look at it throughout the day. This way, it is easy to refocus your mindset throughout the day and to feel more positive.
It does get easier
Once you get used to thinking more positively, it will become almost like second nature. Every time you think a negative thought, instead of ruminating over it like you would have in the past, you will immediately be able to come up with a more positive thought to replace it.
One of the persistent negative thoughts that I have throughout the day is, “I’m so tired, I want to go back to bed.” I think this at moments when I stop even if I’m not actually feeling tired. It is just a persistent habit of mine from years of being overworked.
Now, when I start thinking that, I will tell myself, “I am awake and energized. I am excited by what I get to work on.” Then, I focus back on my work and what I am doing, and I am able to have a better day.
The more you practice countering your negative thoughts this way, the easier it will become for you as time passes. Then, hopefully after a while, the negative thoughts will become less and less frequent.
As you feed your mind with positive thinking, there is bound to be more positive output in your life. You will have better and better days, and the dark thoughts will be fewer and far between.
